A Little Taylor History. . .

History of Taylor

The Taylor building was named after Avon Taylor, a respected educator who taught and was principal in the Palisade area for many years.  The original building was constructed in 1958 with the new section added in 1982. Taylor Elementary School is one of 25 elementary schools in District 51.  We are located on the western slope in rural Palisade, Colorado.

Taylor Elementary is a wonderful small town school tucked into the beautiful town of Palisade, Colorado.  We have wonderful views of Mt. Garfield and Mt. Lincoln as well as the majestic Grand Mesa.  We are nestled into fruit and wine country and are able to take advantage of all the great things that a small town has to offer. We love being a part of this great community.

Goals and History

At Taylor Elementary, academic excellence is our goal. To do this takes constant improvement and growth in our ability to meet the needs of all of our students. In the new millennium, performance and achievement expectations will differ from those of the past.

Our parents report, "Our school is committed to continuous learning." High expectations, core subject standards and a supportive team effort between the community, parents, school staff and students assure learning results. Basic skill development is the focus in our engaging, responsible, standards-based classroom. We acknowledge and respect diversity through methods, techniques and teaching styles. Results, with gains in achievement, affirm that learning is the focus at Taylor.

A top priority for parents, students, teachers and the community is a safe and healthy school in which to educate students. Students have the right to be in school. With that right comes the responsibility to respect the rights of those around them. In order to do this, an atmosphere of order and discipline sets the stage for high expectations in learning.

As a professional, knowledgeable team of caring staff, parents, volunteers, and students, our learning journey moves forward interspersed with fun, humor and the celebration of success. For the community and our future, we know students are our most precious resource.
